Medical Transcription Technology

Program Description
The Medical Transcription Technology program prepares students for entry level employment as a Medical Transcriptionist. The program provides graduates with basic knowledge of medical terminology and internal organization of medical reports along with skills required to transcribe medical dictation with speed, accuracy and clarity. Medical transcriptionists may be employed in a variety of health-related settings, including hospitals, doctors’ offices, health clinics, governmental agencies, insurance companies and in private practice. Graduates may apply to take the voluntary certification examination offered by the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists (AAMT). The AAMT recommends that applicants have a minimum of three years’ experience in transcribing acute-care reports prior to taking the examination.

Application Procedure and Deadline
Classes are admitted yearly in August. Class size is limited, and all applicants are not selected for participation. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED diploma and meet special admission requirements for the program listed below.

Students may apply for admission through the Fall Semester Registration period if classes are not at capacity.

All applicants shall have equal opportunity regardless of race, age, sex, creed, religion, or nationality.

Applicants with special needs due to disability must make this fact known prior to admission so that necessary accommodations can be made. Because of the nature of the profession, it may not always be possible to accommodate students with severe disabilities.
