Nursing Assistant

Program Description
The Nursing Assistant program focuses on safe and effective performance of the student in providing care in a health-care setting. Emphasis is placed on specific Nursing Assistant duties and on the concept pertaining to the psychosocial aspect of caregiving. The participants engage in classroom theory hours that consist of Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, and "how to perform" specific skills of bedmaking, patient bathing, hygeine techniques, and body mechanics. Clinical hours are spent in a long-term care setting (example, Davis Life Care Center) providing hands-on care to the residents. The curriculum has been developed in accordance with the Health Care Finance Administration under the OBRA 1987 Guidelines. The course is coordinated and instructed by a Registered Nurse. Graduates are eligible to take the practical and computerized examinations that lead to Arkansas State Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA). This program is approved by the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Medical Services, Office of Long Term Care.
