Radiologic Technology

Southeast Arkansas College offers two (2) different Radiologic programs:

AAS in Radiologic Technology This is the Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology as offered by SEARK.
Pre-Professional Curriculum These are the courses required prior to enrolling in the UAMS-CHRP.

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radiologic Technology

Program Description
This program provides the didactic and clinical content required to prepare graduates to apply to write the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists  (ARRT) Examination for Radiographers.  The curriculum includes instruction in the art and science of using radiation to provide images of tissues, bones, and blood vessels of the human body.  Upon successful completion of the examination, graduates are certified as Registered Radiographic Technologist, RT (R).

Admission Requirements
High School (or GED Equivalency) Diploma plus general and special requirements listed below:

  1. Completion of all general admissions procedures of the college. Refer to page 17 in the SEARK Catalog and Student Handbook.
  2. Completion of the Nursing and Allied Health Application for Admission form.
  3. ASSET Part-Score Average of 40; or COMPASS scores of 51% in Math (Elementary Algebra), 74% in English, and 81% in Reading; or ACT Composite Score of 18; or completion of 15 semester hours of general education applicable to the program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Complete the general education courses from an accredited college or university with a grade of "C" or above.
  5. Completion or test score validated exemption of all required developmental studies courses in English, mathematics, and reading.
  6. Submission of three (3) reference letters (one professional, one educational, and one personal).
  7. Satisfactorily complete an interview with program faculty.

Application Procedure Deadline
Classes are admitted annually in August. Class size in limited and all applicants are not accepted for participation.

Applicants with special needs due to disability must make this fact known prior to admission so that necessary accommodations can be made. Because of the nature of the profession, it may not always be possible to accommodate students with severe disabilities.

Acceptance Procedure
Should the qualified applicants exceed the available slots in the program, admission into a particular class will be based on the date of completed application. After acceptance into the program, the student must submit evidence of the following in order to begin classes:

  1. Current AHA CPR Certification - Level C
  2. Health History (with form completed)
  3. P.P.D. Skin Test or Chest X-Ray
  4. Hepatitus B Series or Signature on SEARK College Vaccination Waiver Claim Form
  5. Submit to a criminal background check

Program Description
This program is designed to provide the prerequisite courses that are required for entry into the Radiologic Technology program offered through UAMS-CHRP. Fulfillment of the Radiologic Technology pre-professional curriculum does not assure admittance to the professional program at UAMS-CHRP.
