Internet and CD-Rom Subscription Databases – Fall 2003

 

Shortcuts to the Internet services have been placed on all Library computers with Internet access.  Information on remote access for certain of the resources is available in the library.

The CD-Rom resources can only be used in the library.  The disks are kept at the circulation desk.

EBSCO Host, except for CINAHL; the Grolier Encyclopedias; and the Traveler version of FirstSearch are provided by the Arkansas State Library using Library Services and Technology Act funds.

 

 

A.D.A.M. InterActive Physiology CD-Rom

A five (5) CD set covering the Cardiovascular System; Muscular System; Nervous System; Respiratory System and the Urinary System.

 

 

Current Biography CD-Rom 

This annually updated database provides in-depth biographies of more than 13,500 living persons and obituaries for an additional 8,500.  It covers politicians, business people, journalists, actors, sports figures, artists, scientists, and others prominent from 1940 to the present.  Information can be retrieved using, name, profession, place of origin, gender, ethnicity, date of birth or key word.

 

EBSCO Host

Is the gateway to 17 databases and information resources in a variety of fields, including Academic Search Elite, Business Source, Legal Collection, and Newspaper Source.  The CINAHL, Clinical Pharmacology, the academic and consumer versions of Health Source are of particular benefit to Nursing and Allied Health students.

First Encounters CD-Rom

Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and produced by the Arkansas Archeological Survey and members of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville Department of Foreign Languages, this CD provides ‘an extensive collection of historical texts, maps, art works and artifact images’ dealing with the first encounters between Native Americans and Europeans in the Mississippi Valley.

 

FirstSearch

Available in two (2) versions (Traveler and OCLC), First Search provides access to over 70 databases or information sources, including abstracts and/or full text articles from 35,000 magazines, journals and research collections.  Additional information on what is included and how to use the First Search service is available in the library.

 

Literature Online (LION)

Literature Online provides direct access to over 260,000 texts spanning 1,400 years, including comprehensive material for the study of almost every period and genre of English and American literature.  This database integrates all primary and secondary sources, making them accessible from a single search.  It also links to additional web resources, selected for their quality and range of useful literary materials.

 

LawChek

LawChek is a basic law information package which includes a global search function, attorney’s lists, pre-drafted letters, and state specific legal forms in the areas of bankruptcy, contracts, domestic, education, intellectual property and others.

A seven (7) CD set covering:  pre-algebra; algebra-I; algebra-II; geometry; pre-calculus & calculus; trigonometry; and statistics.

Indexing approximately 6,000 general interest magazines and academic journals, this service is a rich source of information for all programs and areas of study.  With approximately 75% of its coverage full text, ProQuest provides immediate access to information for class assignments and research projects.
