Course Description
INET 1113 Introduction to the Internet 3 3 0 0 None This course is designed to acclimate the student to using the Internet and its related tools, especially browsers, e-mail programs, and search engines. The course will include basics such as setting up the Internet on your computer, a discussion of popular browsers and e-mail programs, choosing an ISP, and other topics. The focus of the course is placed on using the Internet for both personal and business use.
INET 1123 HTML & Web Page Technologies 3 3 0 0 Approval of instructor This course focuses on the creation of web pages by using hypertext markup language (HTML). In addition to HTML, the course includes discussions on the history of the Internet and the related technologies of scripting languages, active server pages, databases, and other topics.
INET 1213 Principles of Internet Technology 3 3 0 0 Approval of instructor This course focuses on the multiple technologies used on the Internet including Internet basics, networking, Internet clients, development, security, and business concepts. This course prepares students to take the CompTIA INET + certification exam.
INET 1233 Creating Web Graphics 3 2 2 0 INET 1123 HTML & Web Page Technologies This course will cover graphic design principles in relation to web page construction. The student will use popular web graphics and animation software to learn the processes of editing photos and creating vector graphics and animation. Other course material includes the comparison of various file formats for file size reduction and quality, the exploration of color palettes and effective color combinations, and the possibilities of using text as a graphic tool. (This course is currently not part of the required INET curriculum and would not be considered an elective.)
INET 2113 JavaScript 3 2 2 0 INET 1123 HTML & Web Page Technologies This course provides extensive coverage of client-side JavaScript through extensive hands-on practice in a laboratory environment. Students learn to create interactive and dynamic user interfaces using JavaScript technologies.
INET 2133 E-Commerce Concepts 3 3 0 0 INET 1123 HTML & Web Page Technologies and INET 1213 Principles of Internet Technologies OR Approval of Instructor This course discusses the fundamental concepts of conducting business transactions over the Internet. The topics include an introduction; infrastructure; web-based tools, electronic commerce software; security threats; implementing security; electronic payment systems; strategies for marketing, sales, and promotions; strategies for purchasing and support activities; strategies for web auctions, virtual communities, and web portals; the international, legal, ethical, and tax environment; and business plans for electronic commerce.
INET 2143 Active Server Pages 3 2 2 0 INET 2113 JavaScript Students will design and maintain interactive and dynamic web applications using server-based scripting language and Active Server Page. Students will create web pages that interact with databases regardless of the browser type and manipulate HTML forms and other data sources using ASP technology. Related Java Server Pages technology is also discussed.
INET 2153 Web Server Administration 3 3 0 0 INET 1213, Principles of Internet Technology This course focuses on the installation, configuration, and use of web server programs. Web servers are the foundation applications used on the Internet by the World Wide Web. The course will focus on the world’s most popular web server - the Apache HTTP Server Project.
INET 2163 PHP (Pre-Hypertext Processing) 3 2 2 0 INET 2113 JavaScript or INFO 1133 Introduction to Programming. This course will cover the development of web pages interacting with databases using Open Source (free) software. The course will include a discussion of what Open Source software is and provide numerous examples. The bulk of the course will instruct on developing web pages and databases using PHP and MySQL, two popular examples of Open Source software. More specifically, the course will use PHP to store and retrieve data, use arrays, manipulate expressions, reuse code, write functions, and design, create, and manage the MySQL database.
